SEATED SILVER and CIVIL WAR Group T-net Hunt

We had another fantastic outing courtesy of Smokey. It was a rough day with heavy rain, wind gust and 10lbs mud boots but once again everyone managed several good relics including silver coins. We all put in about 4 hours on top the mountains. Walking half dollar, 2 capped bust dimes, crotal bells, lead bullets and some other 19th century coins were discovered by the others. I managed to find knap sack pieces, J hook, tent gromets, tree pendant, a beautiful 1858 seated quarter dollar, my first Williams cleaner ( and it was dropped), some misc items, a Riflemen Eagle button and the find of the day a US BOX PLATE. My third plate off this site. And we thought it was hunted out. LOL Thanks for looking GL & HH

Awesome 'Hunted out finds' ,a sweet plate is the BOMB (btw I don't think you cleaned it to much) As-Is 'is' fine.

The 'abundant' old coins are amazing.

I'd Happily drive up for a day or 2 on that site, & be happy with 1 minnie.

I think the Thompson used 45 ACP FMJ Bullets 'for the most part' , Stick Or Drum mag's.
I want one of those as well ,& Semi auto is fine.

Very impressive hunt. Great job on the beautiful Lead and that old shiny Silver. Who could ask for more.

I can answer that, the mad cladder, the even madder smokeythecat has met some people at organized digs or at clubs, and seeing they are not ax murderers invites them up to a small group dig. So we had met each other before. They in turn share sites later. this coming year It's a great way to make friends and to go to places you haven't been before. Now the site we were at is basically "secure". My friends live there and the place has camera coverage on almost all of the property, and is posted, so there wouldn't be any people invite themselves in there, especially not these folks as they get invited! it's a relaxing way to dig with so much land, we don't bump into each other. Saturday the rain did not help, but it let up about an hour and a half into the dig. I also had a second reason to have a group up. With a partial day dig in bad weather, with the travel time and it getting dark before 5 pm, we needed more people in the field to try to find more hot spots before it froze, which it has now done, so we could take advantage of them in the spring. Unfortunately, we did not find any more hot spots. So that's about it. The group has put about 100 man hours on the farm now. Not every inch has been gridded, but compared to the first few digs a year ago, the finds are dwindling, as would be expected. Our one saving grace this year was the farmer disced it about 2 weeks ago, and he disced it down deep and brought up some items. The heaving of the frost may bring up more items, but there are an enormous amount of rocks on the farm, so it will be impossible to determine what next year will bring.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like fun. I’ve only met 2 tnet members and neither one of them were too weird. I might consider posting an open dig in here in the spring. Wasn’t sure if there was a procedure though. Much abliged for the info.

Gawd I love that site. Thanks Smokey! I wish I had gotten a "Steve" pic of me covered in mud too. I think my pants are finished. What a great bunch of folks to detect with. We came, we detected, we vacuumed up the place and despite the fact that it seems to have regained its slumber, I am sure there will be more surprises to come. The variety is just bizarre. It is like a detectors' playground. Posted these in the Deus forum but thought they should show here too. Two visits worth of awesome.

I resent that I did not give you the impression I was an axe murderer at the Lancaster hunt. Here's pic someone took when I arrived... It's the same look I get whenever you invite me back to that farm.

Thank you Truth1253 ! That was a great way to end the year. We got hit with cold weather just a day later, everything is frozen with a snow blanket.

I cant believe how well everyone does up there. You found some good keepers and some different relics I havnt seen come from there. I like the crotal bell and key, the pewter button is a great score.

I see a design as well. Looks to be upside down but I think I see a crown at the top with possibly a lion in the middle. Not sure but it looks like a colonial/ REV era pewter button.

Thanks Darryl - need to clean it up. Something is def on there, I just haven't had the time to get at it. Just had eye surgery (successfully) and now have a cold. Go figure.
