Hi everyone. I'm a little bummed out right now but still (on the other hand) excited about finding another bit of silver! I got to go a hunting this morning (late) for a while between thunderstorms that are rolling though Central Kentucky.. all day and night now. I got in about a three hour hunt at a Soccer Complex I spied in the neighboring town of Versailles Kentucky. Being a weekday and early, it was nearly deserted save for the maintenance guys mowing the fields and repainting the lines. This place is HUGE!!! something on the order of 12 or thirteen playing fields. I took pictures of it to share with everyone too.. and that's why I'm a little bummed out. *sigh*
My darling wife presented me with an early anniversary gift last night. A brand new digital camera. A Sony Cybershot DSC-W80... 7.2 megapixels!!!! Sweeeeet! This thing is so thin and compact, yet takes absolutely amazing photos. Thin as a dime! In fact, I put my latest silver, a 1956 Roosevelt dime, in the pictures of the new camera for scale. I took pictures of the new camera with my older digital camera.. <shrug> Anyway.. here it is.
And that's all the pictures I have for today.. I have a BUNCH of pictures IN the new camera, but I can't get them OUT of the camera and onto my computer. I followed all the directions and installed the software, plugged in the cable correctly, but still my computer is not recognizing the camera or even that it's plugged in at all. I'm about to pull my hair out over it too.. and that would be disastrous as I don't have a lot of hair to spare!.. <grin>
Anyway.. pictures or not I found a bunch of clad today as well as my lone silver coin. Surprisingly most of it was under the turf, not in it or on it. I had expected to find most of my coins on the surface, at least above the grass roots. But most were UNDER the grass roots <one raised eyebrow>. They weren't very deep, but they were down there. My deepest dig was probably the silver, at about 4 to 5 inches, but I had quarters and pennies and even a few nickles that were 4 inches down as well.. and they are all newer clad coins. <shrug>
I did find a few other interesting items.. a couple of buttons, a snapring hook that the swivel had come off of.. and the swivel about a foot away. I found a nameplate for a race horse. The brass bridle name tags that the horse farm owners put on all there horses.. it has the horse's name on one side and it's parents name on the opposite side. Of course the brass is tarnished and very dark, but it's readable.
Did I mention that the "soccer complex" used to be part of a Thoroughbred Horse Farm? Anyway, I found 154 coins for a total of $12.73 (not counting the '56 rosie) as well as all the assorted pull tabs, buttons, snaps, name plate and too many pieces of can slaw and bottle caps to count. Funny.. my back aches a bit tonight too. hmmmmm.
Well folks, I had a wonderful day, save for the frustration (learning curve) with the new camera/interface problem. It's pouring down rain outside right now with a low rumbling of thunder in the distance. The basement is a bit chilly and my wife is snug and warm in our bed upstairs. Guess Where I'd like to be right now? <grin> I'll post the pictures from the new camera (including my '56 Rosie) when I get it figured out. Till then.. as always.. Happy Hunting.
