While it may not seem that this has much to do with prospecting, it does. You have to have access in order to mine. Many of the routes closed, were in fact, built by miners exploring many areas back in the day. Now we have better tech, so I say open them up and we can get to work.

Going out four wheeling to go prospecting then camping out and eating a steak cooked over an open mesquite fire along with a few beers. It just doesn't get any better than that.

It's strictly a publicity move and has no legal effect. All agency actions are on hold until at least March 20 by Executive Order. This is really just a press release just like the website says.

Section 5 of the "order"
Effect of this order: This Order is intended to improve the internal management of the Department. This Order and any resulting reports or recommendations are not intended to, and do not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or equity by a party against the United States, its departments, agencies, instrumentalities or entities, its officers or employees, or any other person. To the extent there is any inconsistency between the provisions of this Order and any Federal laws or regulations, the laws or regulations will control.

Stuff will change eventually after March 20 and we will just have to see which direction it goes. In the meantime this type of fluff will be par for the course.

Clay,

The Order is for a management direction. It will have just as much effect as the Secretarial Order telling the management agencies to manage lands under their control as closed unless posted open where they were being managed as open unless posted closed. I'll find the order for you.

Edit: It was Salazar's infamous "wild lands" policy (Secretarial Order 3310) where any land with " wilderness characteristics" was to be managed as "wilderness" until such time as it was given the wilderness designation by Congress. This is the SO that closed hundred of thousands of miles of back roads and trails with a stroke of a pen.

This press release does not repeal or change any management policy. It directs the DOI to follow an already existing executive order 13443 issued by Trump and asks for recommendations. It then says when the Secretary has approved the recommendation reports to hand them over to two other agencies. That's it. Nothing in this press release "order" about wilderness or repealing any other secretarial order.

Conservation Stewardship and Outdoor Recreation Directive.
a. This Order directs the Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks and the Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management to:

(1) Report to the Secretary within 30 calendar days on:
a. All actions taken to implement with Executive Order 13443 and achieve its goals.
b. All actions described in by Executive Order 13443 that have not occurred, along with an explanation of any regulatory, legislative , policy or other barriers that have prevented or slowed successful implementation of Executive Order 13443.
c. Specific recommendations to improve implementation of Executive Order 13443 . 2

(2) Report to the Secretary within 30 calendar days with specific recommendations to enhance recreational fishing, specifically regarding efforts to enhance and expand recreational fishing access.

You can read the whole press release order at the link above.

This order might or might not lead to some future action beyond internal meetings and report shuffling. Only time will tell.
