I, like most of you, often come across phones in the wet sand, totally trashed.
Well today I took my collection to the mall and sold them to a 'cell phone ATM'
I got $17 each for the Iphones ans $15 for an Ipod. Total: $117.
Better than throwing them away.

Thanks for the info. ray

Check out gazelle and iPhone antidote before going to the mall next time. I got $110 for a trashed older model iPhone 5. Depending on the model you could have $250 to $1500 in that photo. I got my check for $110 and bought my new pinpointer the next day with it. I hope for phones as they are worth more than small gold rings

You may also look at the scrap gold that can be had in cell phones.

Thanks Fred and Josh. I just found a surprisingly intact Samsung in deep wet sand near the HB pier Sunday but surely the electronics are fried. Almost gave up trying to recover it as the waves were hitting hard. It is nice to see your reminders of the various outlets for making something out of the trashed phones. Reminds a little of the back forth over who are the best in gold meltdown recovery payouts between Midwest Refineries and the good people at ARA.

Gazelle offered $10 each and Iphone Antidote offered $5.
The ones I found were all 4's.
The machine would also pay a lot more for 5's.
I liked the machine as it's done, no mail, no waiting and it spits out cash!
Cheers

Regardless of your opinion about eBay, this is the kind of thing worth starting an account (or borrowing a friends') for. Make an auction starting at $1, disclaim the "drowned in saltwater" thing, and you will get upward of $50 each for the iPhones (model 4 and up), often much more. Stick it in a free USPS Small Flat Rate Box, ship it to a verified address, and you're done. The box is insured up to 100$ and comes with free tracking. I have sold dozens of busted Apple items on there and I always end up laughing all the way to the bank.

Fred - thanks for the update. Boy did prices drop after the first of the year on the 4's. They quoted $40 in December to me (more for the 4S) Guess we just have to get lucky and get newer 5's then. Glad you were able to get some cash for the finds.

I have never heard of a cell phone atm. Probably because I live in a wasteland called Maine, only fools and crazies stay here! LOL! Anyways are these found in most malls?

I have sold several iPhones on eBay and have always got over $100.00. I had a 3G that powered on that I got $300.00.

Those aren't quite as strong anymore - it's all about the iPads and iPhone 5 right now - but you still get way more than those vending machines will give. Allow your Flat Rate box to go international and odds of getting $100+ on a busted phone are better.

Have to hand it to the guys that came up with those dropboxes, though. Still kicking myself for not thinking of that one.

Ssooooo... the guy who bought the trashed iphone for say $100 bucks turn around and.....:dontknow:!!

This is great info and I thank everybody for posting. I was just pulling the memory card (for use in other devices) and dropping the phone off at Best Buy discarded electronics box. I had no idea a ruined phone had any value whatsoever.

I always find a few phones in the spring that were lost in the snow, especially at the local ski hill (under the lift) or beside the cross country trails. Actually, my dog (lab) is pretty good at finding them on walks (2 in the last year/ 1 was returned). She picks up all kinds of things and walks around with them in her mouth. I should film it. She is proud of herself and snorts with each step. Unfortunately, she thinks a plastic water bottle is just as interesting as a watch, wallet or phone.

I got 130 for an iphone 5s on Gazelle.
