Our group, The Search & Recovery Team of Oakland County had contacted Senator Michael Bishop about the policy of the Michigan DNR's restrictions on metal detecting in our state parks.

The response we received back was the "blab-blab" that the DNR sets policys that are good for the state parks. We were instructed to visit the DNR website to view the restrictions on the State Parks.

I think maybe he needs to receive more information from us. His address is:

Thanks Amber for your support to our hobby. The FMDAC has been silent on this for most states.

What is the DNR's position on our hobby in state parks? Perhaps you could post a link so people could get a better understanding of what the problem and the laws are.

Sand, i made a post in legal issues, bout forming a leaque who`s only function in life would be fighting for our (meaning anyone in this hobby, lifestyle) rights. No hidden agenda`s no board of directors, all monies going to fund or hold on retainer a group of lawyers whos sole job would be fighting for us, although read no replies have been made.

I suppose that these state employees that run the park are trained archaeologists and are able to tell what can and cannot be removed properly. ;)

I worked for the state in the DNR at one of the parks listed. You know, the intelligent dude that sits in a shack taking your money so you may enter the park. These "Rangers" are interested in jewelry you find, supposedly to auction off in state auctions. However none of these items you turn in are ever returned to you, nor make it to any auction.
