On Saturday, Chris and I decided to go on a "Permission Mission." We knocked on one door, but no one was home. As we were walking away, I laughed and said, "You know what? This is a sign that we are going to find another site that is going to be killer." Well, we were driving to another location, when we saw Mr. Farmer out in the field...harvesting corn where an early homesite sat! I instantly blurted, "YES! We are coming here tomorrow!" We already have standing permission for his farm.

We pulled up to the field on Sunday morning and walked out into it with high hopes of digging some coppers. Right when I turned my machine on, I started hearing iron...lots of it...and it was crackling and sputtering and doing what iron always loves to do. Within the first two minutes, I found a small Colonial cuff button. I knew the day was going to be a bonanza after that.

I eventually got a beautiful-sounding "Half Dollar" reading on my analog machine. It turned out to be this wonderful late-date Coronet cent! I was ecstatic. I got my copper for the day.

I ended the day with 15 buttons, two pewter spoon pieces, a shot musketball, a thimble, a tiny brass buckle, and two Indian Heads (1860 and 1864).

I am looking forward to going back and seeing what else this early dweller lost for our team! It should be an exciting adventure, that is for sure!

Kyle

My brother, you hauled in the buttons for sure. :hello2: Wow, that makes 6 period coins and 30 buttons from this site in just one hunt (5:1). I have a feeling that we are in for more of a Colonial treat. We are going to find no less than 10+ coppers and 60+ buttons here. ;D

That copper sure made for your snack for the day. :laughing9: The green patina rocks! :headbang:

I am game for next Sunday! :icon_thumleft:

Sweet looking coin there Kyle.... That is alot of buttons too...Very nice digs :icon_thumleft:

nice patina on that copper, Kyle, and good handful of buttons, to boot.
can't wait to see what comes out of there after a full day of hunting.

Yummy post!

That one is a nice greenie, except in the date area where you scrub-a-dub-dubbed it. Still a pretty coin. And a nice haul of period buttons. :)

Nice Job! Hopefully theres a shoe buckle or two layin around... ;D

Nice going on the greenie! The sound one makes is a distant memory for me!

We will return when the farmer decides to cut the rest of the crop. It may be this week or it may be a few months from now. Until then, we will patiently wait to see what else this Colonial Pennsylvanian had in his coin pouch!

Thank you all for viewing my post!

We will, hopefully, rack and stack a new site for next Sunday!

I'd say you're far from done there, and the key might be the condition. Rare find & condition. :headbang:

Nice looking copper when it's cleaned. Beautiful patina dude. Once again MILLIONS of buttons. Would be nice if they finish cutting the field but oh well if not. We will just re load.
Unc.

That Coronet is in great shape !! It has a great Patina !! Congrads !! MaineRelic

Great looking finds Kyle :headbang: Congrats!

Looks like you all did great this past weekend Kyle. Doesn't look like too much 18th century stuff, but I have no problem with early 19th century relics and coins. In fact, I love the sites that span the late colonial into the 1820s.
