I was at a local park today for 4hr's and found this Service/Military Coin??But,whoever owned it was proud of it and carried it with them at all times with noticeable dings and dents etc. on the coin..I wish there was a way I can return it to the owner..Does anyone know anything about coins like this?

On a side note scored my most coinage in a hunt and racked up 33 quarters-71 dimes-8 nickels and 52 penny's including one 1936 wheatie =$16.27...In one area 15'by15' was about 5 bucks in clad on the surface and most of them were dimes..Took a half hr in that area to make sure it was clear,

Commonly referred to as a Challenge Coin...slam the coin down on the Bar or drop it on the floor and everyone in the place has to produce their unti challenge coin...the Troop who cant produce his Unit's coin has to buy a round...not played very often.

Congrats on all the coin finds Rob! :notworthy:

We all deserve to have a 1/2 hour like you did! :laughing7:

LJHanley06 -I just read the whole history about the Challenge Coin and it's a long one at that..That explans all the digs and dents on this coin,LOL!!It's also outside the Military as well with the CC..

That's it!Mackaydon :icon_thumright:

The ebay seller is selling off 9,500 Army and Joint Forces Challenge Coin Collection :o

Indeed it is a challenge coin, however this--->the Troop who cant produce his Unit's coin has to buy a round..."not played very often" is incorrect.. played almost everytime I go into the vfw or american legion. Makes for a fun time still.
nice find. :hello2:

The chips and dings come from churning around in my pocket with the other change. I have 2 coins. One is generic PARATROOPER coin and the other is from the 82nd AIRBORNE given me by a good friend. Not to mention a silver round there is a bit of wear. I don't dare carry my "Made A Mason" coin since it would weigh me down too much. I know some guys that collect and trade the military coins. Check E-Bay and see all the different types of coins out there.

Nice haul and cool you found a commander's coin! HH, Mike
