I found this yesterday in black belt area of Alabama.
Any ideas on what kind shark it belonged to and the age of
tooth?

I didn't realize that there was a black belt area of Alabama. But it makes sense that the black belt (named for the soil type) area of Mississippi should extend eastward.

Your tooth may be the crown of a lamnid shark tooth, but you should go back to find a more complete specimen.

Your tooth crown is more than likely from an Eocene shark, perhaps like one of these (of course, there are more sharks than these in the Eocene).
