Wow, did we try hard today, spent 10 hours solid detecting on the best field I had available to give Shaun7 a B/D Prezzie. (Dad was away for the today)

86 buttons - best 1 day total.
Pewter/lead 22nd Reg of Foot cuff button (18th C) - my first of this size, & with loop
Nice 18th C cuff link with crown over 2 hearts

17th C nipple button with loop, & 2 Tudor Buttons complete

Trade Weight - 1826-79 - City of London (Guildhall shield)
Medieval Belt Decors
1 poor Hammered Silver
Possible Saxon Buckle Plate (badly broken)
Very nice Medieval Buckle plate with Sea monster design
Romano-Celtic fragment of a mid-late 1st C AD plate Brooch

Star find & something worth the pain for, was a Roman Knife Terminal - Bust of Mars This is my second of these, but my other is quite a bit larger.

Almost every post I've seen from you and your Dad, you guys find a ton of great stuff
Tell me . . . what do you do with all of it? Preserve it, donate it to museums, sell it,
or do you simply display it in your private warehouse museum?

2 years ago I had a wish list that included a Roman Bronze Figure, until I found the larger example which although isn't a full statue, it was close enough to make me jump about. Not seen another one like it until mini me popped out, over 50 miles from the other one

Now I have them out they are quite different, I'm was equally pleased to get this latest one

I found 1 other similar matching strapend, I will always remember it, as when I cleaned it, some weaved fabric fell out from between the 2 plates (odd it wasn't leather like most should be). I chucked it in the bin, bad news is that it was probably worth more than the strapend, & very dateable by the weave

Thanks, I do a fair bit of research but none was needed for this field. Its not a site of occuption, just a farmed field for close to 2000 years.

Its always a bonus to have the loop, they often just rot off, or get hit by the plough. I never bore of finding them, they are so nice straight from the ground with there good quality metal. These are often associated with our Civil War as they were made during this period & they had no 'Military' buttons as such.

Its funny, as it was under a big pile of loosely lying Barley storks that the bailing machine missed, must have made it at least 4-5 inches deeper (in air as well). But it still rang our a powerful tone & I remembering thinking, must be a large piece of junk for me to hear anything under that. Still an easy option of always dig

Things seem to be warming up in the finds department, soon time to ramp it up a gear when the sites get harvested. Should be some nice rare finds in my future
