I secured permission to hunt a farm that saw some battle activity during the Civil War. I've been finding shell fragments(at least 2 fit together) and some roundballs. Found 9 frags, 2 pocket knives, and 3 roundballs yesterday ...hopefully more today . The shell frags appear to be from parrots and round shot.

HH and thanx for looking

Good finds.....great lead-ins. Someone was firing that stuff at someone else.....see if you can find the trenchs, the emplacements, where
those unlucky souls were......there the fraged pieces will lead you to the coins and buttons.
Keep us posted, so we can get happy with you.

Cool digs. Keep us post on what else you find.
I'll be watching

Great finds & I agree with Hike, with that many frags, someone was heading for cover :o
Keep at it, you may have found a great spot! HH

Re: SHELL SHOCKED (again)

Last Sunday I returned to the field where I've been finding shell fragments and found 2 more frags and a 1950-something wheat penny. The wind was relentless and annoying , so I quit for the day. I went back there today and found 12 more fragments and a boreman fuse and 1 more roundball and a couple of old wrenches. The morning was wet and drizzly , and i gave up after the rain picked up a bit.

I know the exact date these shells were fired and the General and regiments involved, where they were fired from and the number of casualties of this engagement. I am hunting the Confederate side of the battle , so i know these are Union shell fragments. I'm hoping to find an unexploded shell...and some buttons or buckles would be real sweeeet.

HH everybody and thanx for all the responses.
