UPDATED INFO ON THIMBLE.

SMALL UPDATE: ON SCABBARD
see below.

I warned ole man winter that if he didn't completely lock me
into my house, that I would sneak out again.

Well, I did just that, picked up a couple keepers too.

Back to the soybean field, one more time:

Lead & the requisite clad quarter. ;)

Whatcha think?

Button has some sort of design on the front.
Back too, but not much help.

The thimble is my personal star of the day for
one main reason. Of all the thimbles I've ever found,
this is my very first silver one! It even has a maker's mark!

I don't have very good equipment for getting a good picture
of it though. It's on the inside.

Here's what I got:

Nothing sweeter than a little icing on the cake, now is there. ;)

Shhhhhhh!

Thanks for peeking!

Nice score on the thimble....
I got a few flat tin ones, or whatever junk metal....
That's high on my list to find, as far as relics go.....

Same as BigWaveDave said. Still hoping to find a silver thimble myself. You are a lucky duck. Nice hunt!
PS: Still hoping to fool old man winter a few more times myself.

Sweet silver thimble!! That one is high on my want list, that would be my cake and icing.
Congrats on a Sweet one!!

Sweet soybean, I love silver thimbles!

More goodies got to love the bean field congrats

Whadi, the thimble gets my "thumbs up" (ugh) But, your brass piece may very well be a scabbard/sheath band, who knows HOW old!!!? What a great hunt, congrats! Sub 8-)

Excellent thimble! All mine are aluminum... however, I have hopes that one day I'll find a silver one.

Well played sir!

Congratulations on beating "Old Man Winter" and finding some very nice relics! :occasion14:

A few Interesting Finds there !
But that thimble sure stands out :icon_thumleft:

Cool & Congrats

Ya know, Sub? I was thinking the same thing but, I don't know relics very well.

Can anyone who knows relics like this, suggest what I might try to do to clean it up? Or, if I should?
There seems to be some gilt/gold left on this piece. Might there be some ID under all that corrosion?

Thanks!

I found this one online:

BRITISH SCABBARD MOUNT.webp

Early 19th century officer's scabbard mount.
Could be, some of the buttons I've found here have
"COLOUR" on them. :dontknow:

Now just how often does anyone find a scabbard? :)

Think I should clean/polish mine? :icon_scratch:

*************NICE LOOT *****************

Congrats on some nice finds. Like others, I've not come across a silver thimble yet, mostly brass. Kinda cool how the makers mark is stamped on the inside.

OUTSTANDING!!!

With jewelerguy's help over on the "What is it" forum, the jeweler's mark on the thimble is for Simons Brothers.
Due to where it was found, it's likely from circa 1840.

:icon_salut: to jewelerguy!

Nice finds Gary! I have yet to find a thimble of any sorts. If the " scabbard " has gilt, follow the directions on naval jelly to clean it. Slow and easy does it. A little is better than a lot!

Very nice thimble Whadi.

Just did a lil clean up on the possible scabbard. Thought I'd share even though it really didn't help anything much. :dontknow:

Whatever he used to be, he's had a hard life and still manages a bit of a shine/smile. :)

Thanks!
