Shield badge? Need some help IDing please

Found in an area with occupancy dating back to the 1700s through modern times albeit now the land is not in use or inhabited. Appears to be a button or pin of some sort? The edges are beveled so the shape appears to be intentional though the lower angle where the 2 sides meet is not perfectly symmetrical.

No way Jose is it from a knife. Knife shields are pinned on except for more modern cheap knives, and those don't have attatchment hooks in the middle.
