Got out for a few this weekend. Was definitely hitting some older areas!! Can't wait to get back!! So how would you clean the shield nickel??? Seems like it has some detail. I think the French coin is a Napoleon 3 Emperor. It must date in the 1850's. I can't read it. Hope you all have some good permissions lined up!!! Happy hunting!

That nickel is in great shape!! I’ve found plenty on shield nickels but only 2 that were close to that, congrats , nice work!!

Nice finds. There is so much character in the older coins.
Congrats!

Two great coins. I wouldn't clean either....or you run the risk of killing them.
Thanks, I don't like that risk. I keep rubbing that french coin, trying to see a date. I might do a peroxide soak with a plastic brush on that one.

I'll bet your eager to get back to that area. Great finds and I bet your smelling something really good to uncover in that area. Heck I think I can maybe smell it from way up here.

My wife and son and another car of people were waiting for me. I had a good silver signal but just a stick to scratch the dirt when my wife came and got me. Time flys detecting. I was up around Leadville. It will be waiting for me next time I make it up.

Wow, I was just in Leadville today. I took a jackleg we fixed up for the Leadville Boom Days Mining competition. After that I went up to a location of a small Mine that my guy in Nucla said called to quote a few things. Last anyone called for anything at that mine was decades ago. I took this picture up there looking towards Mosquito pass.
