Hi guys, I found this coin the other day near to a George 3rd penny on a farm in Anglesey. Both at a similar depth. I think it's a Shield Nickel from the USA? Any ideas? 1869 shield back nickel.jpg

Yep, nice find, should be slightly smaller in diameter than a modern nickel and thinner

Thanks everyone. I wonder how it came to be in a field on a farm on an island off the North Wales coast.... This is why I love metal detecting.

Good find I've found stuff in places where you would never expect part of the fun of the hobby like a 1907 patato machinery award token from the James town exposition in a park in Michigan I could go on and on. Nice coins. Tommy
