If you like checking out big ships, marinetraffic.com/ais/ is an interesting site. All big (and some even not so big) ships have transponders (AIS-automatic identification system) that tells what the ship is, where it's going, etc.
At this website you can track these ships in real time. It allows you to go to your area and even select what type of ships you want to watch.
