Short eared owl

I had heard of sightings of both short eared and long eared owls just down the road from me on MoD land. So, today, I decided to go and have a look for myself. The area of the sightings is controlled by the Ministry of Defence, and as such you cannot wander off the marked paths because of unexploded ordinance, so with this in mind I trod carefully and wandered off the path . I'm glad I did because a beautiful short eared owl came gliding past and I managed to get a couple of shots and I also managed to get back with out blowing myself up

Hi Ron, yes we have 5 resident owls over here plus migrants/vagrants. Now I know it's haunt I hope to get some "Tack" sharp pics soon . This time I was free hand with the 500mm, but the light was good, next time tripod and an extra 2 points

Now that,s a good bird photo.

Thanks HCW, I hope to get some better ones soon, but the area is only open at weekends when they are not firing the guns

That last one is beautiful! I know you shutterbugz like nice sharp pictures, but I like the light and softness of this one. Makes me think of the owl's softer silent feathers.

I've seen a few stories in the news about snowy owls hanging around the states this year because of how warm it's been.
