had to decide between water & land again
decide to hunt with old friend for a short field hunt
even though a new permission and he had high hopes - told him - its been hammered by guys
with NO permissions for yrs - we did not find much except fresh footprints and holes by others
we then went to another permission but only had a little time left - he had appointment to keep
I got a deep crusty copper and a few small balls and small buttons - his only good find was a nice
old skeleton key

Looks like you were detecting a very old trash pit. Time to break out the sifter-you might be surprised at what you will find there.

Ive been in hobby since 1975 - my partner like 1979
they used to dump trash here in the 1800s - no regular trash pit - 1000+ acres of field
he got permission from owner the other day - but lot of guys just go in without permission
there is pieces of all kinds of glass and porcelain all over - we get pieces of pipe stems and now and then you'll can get
indian relics too in fields in this area

Nice stuff Casper. There is a place up north of me just like that. It was a civil war Era college and everyone just goes out there whenever. I asked the landowner permission and he said " sure, least you came up and asked permission, most people have just came out and done it even with no trespassing signs and a barbed wire fence". I got a handshake out of it and he thanked me for the kind gesture and invited me back anytime

Yup, I know that kind of spot. The type that people plan to detect before they buy their metal detector. The type of place everyone and their brother has been too. I know at least 5 places like that. It seems that this type of place always has publicized history or cellar holes. Good luck though, you can still sometimes find stuff there!
