I only hunted one hr. needed to get out and be in the air... today I found a colgate cream deodorant ( tiny jar with lid) milk glass..made in jersey city,NJ... I think most likely this was made in the 50's.. the milkglass is in mint condition..weird thou... this is about the size of a small tub of lip gloss.. maybe a sample sized one..beats me. Then some shotgun shell casings... then a window doo hicky.... and I have soaking in rust remover some rusty crusty thingy..I am not sure what that is yet..will post pictures after I take it out of the rust remover... either way.. was great to get out... kinda suprised I havent found a coin yet there..but I will gladly settle for another civil war relic or revolutionairy war item.. ohhhhhhhhhhh yea.

Nice finds!

I always keep those milk glass cold cream jars when I find them. They're too nice to pass up! My wife keeps threatening me not to bring another found bottle home. :)

Forgive me if you already know this, but since you use a White's machine (I use an XLT) you might want to look into using a program that utilizes mixed-mode audio, which I've found to be perfect for relic hunting. I have a good program I got from a book (can't find it this exact moment) but I'm sure you can find a few online if you Google it. If no luck PM me and I'll give you the settings right off my machine.

What's nice about it is it combines both all-metal and discriminate modes. So when you're hunting an old site you'll always be aware of where there's metal in the ground -- you get a low all-metal tone whenever your coil sweeps over something; then if it's within your discrimination ranges, you get a high-pitched tone that combines with the low tone and kind of overpowers it. Those are the signals you should especially always dig. You also get a very distinct broken sound when you sweep over large iron, so you can choose to dig those too. I've been hunting a series of huge former farm fields and the amount of iron in the ground is astonishing. If you're into digging up old farm tools, horseshoes, etc., you'll have a trunk full before you know it!

Good luck!

Bram.. this place is like layered with history... first it was a tavern stop for the horse n buggies..then it was a general store that also became a post office..then somewheres in time it also became a gulf station with two pumps.. then it was also 30 yrs ago, used as farming crops... so see, this is why I am finding all weird stuff from different time frames... poss. the rev. war...civil war... early 40-50's...lordy knows whats there... we are talking over 10 acres.. I seriously am having me a ball at it....I just wish I could get my hands on the sandborn maps to see where the out buildings were and the outhouse.. I would dearly love to find where they dumped their trash too... theres gullies n mounds all over the place.. so since the historian sent me pictures ( which showed the gulf station) I wonder, hummm is this why it hasnt sold yet? buried tanks? or maybe the price is too high.. alls I know is its still owned by the original family which was one of the founding families here... Every time I go there, I look at that falling down house which is loaded with antique furniture and still looks like a general store inside from what I could see thru one window.. and I think god, I would love to own this..or at least see the insides of it... then again I would drool all over the antiques as that is my weakness.. I just love this place..
