I haven't been out much in the last couple of weeks because I was sick. I'm starting to feel better now, so I bundled up yesterday and hunted in the woods for a couple hours. I was in an area that is forested now, but back in the 1930's, it was a clearing. It was nice hunting because it wasn't real trashy, and I was digging just about every signal.

After a couple of pop tops, I dug down about 5 inches and pulled out a muddy disc. I knew it wasn't silver :( , but it looked interesting. When I got it home and cleaned it up, I found that it was an 1898 V-nickel - and my first. ;D. She's not in the best shape, but that's OK. I also found an early wheat - still soaking so I can read the date, some clad pennies and ammunition remnants. I know it's not the greatest bounty, and it's certainly not the silver I was looking for, but it turned out to be a decent hunt. Thanks for checking it out!

Cool V nickel!! That whatzit to the left of the 22 shell looks familiar. Is there a glass lense inside?

Congrats on the first V.

She isn't in to bad of shape. Nickles are almost always beat up. Very rare do you get a nice none corroded one.

Nice hunt. Glad to hear you're feeling better.

Congratulations on your first V. A nice strong date. :icon_sunny: Yours is actually better looking than a lot of the ones I have found.

Sweet coin! And an old one to boot!
Most of my V-nickels are always in the early 1900s.
Good find.
Congrats on your first!

Kimsdad,

Congratulations on the V! I also recently found my first, an 1896, and it was really worn down. Believe it or not, it was at the camp. Now all we need are shields and we're set!

Any coin that starts with an"18--" or lower number is pretty cool. Great find, hope you're feeling better!

Good stuff, will only get better!

Nice one.. and the date is readable. Finding coins with no dates really bugs me.

Big congrat on the V.

Hope it will be the first of many.

Thanks Jerry! No lens - just an empty hole. Any idea what the whatzit is?
