Funny, I just finished reading an article that said the weter the ground the more depth you're going to get from your coil. Apparently in your case - it is true.

It sure would be an easy theory to test out!

Just got home from work and decided I'm going to try, I remember reading something about going out after the rain. I'll let you know what happens.

You're going to have to put a lot of water down before you notice any difference. I was hitting coins at 11-12" in late winter/ early spring at my local park. Now that the grass is growing and snow melt gone, I am lucky to see 6-8" at that same park. The water definitely makes the soil more conductive.

I ran the sprinkler for an hour, maybe I'll turn it back on since my Daughter is protesting bed. I only hunt after she goes to bed, work too many hours to miss time while she's awake

If nothing else, it will make it easier to dig!

Absolutely on the digging, just turned off the sprinkler. Trying to get a 2 1/2 year old to bed is a challenge lately. Can't wait to get out there and see if it worked.

Well I will call it success, 1952 nickel, 41 & 42 Wheaties. I also found a ton of nails and a black rock that sets off the pinpointer.

Detecting after a rain storm or after an overnight soak has always been better for me and your first outing after watering seems to say "Yes" it is useful. Yes, this is your hobby whereas your young children are your happiness..................63bkpke

Never too young to start, grab her a detector you never know you just might have the best hunting partner under your nose and don't even know it!
