Of Digging clad.......

I am trying to get alot of hunting in before snow flies but geeze I am sick of digging clad. Hit some trails along the river this week ....slim pickings

Anyone know what those two screw things are...same hole...one is numbered....the other the top twists

The screw thing is for holding down a cover from a pick up truck or a boat cover. My brother puts them on pick up trucks and boats all the time and so have I.
Put the steel ring over (Grommet) it and turn the top to hold it down

I know what you mean..it was just a few days ago I realized it's almost November..where did this whole year go Clad's all I've been digging up the last few outings..I was intentionally looking for rings and silver.

Nice relics though, you found a few nice items and I like the rings and bottles. And that McDonald's ashtray is awesome

Hope you find a few more nice things before the weather changes for good.

Hey Gypsy,

The copper nail with the number is a pole tack.

They used them back in the day for numbering and marking power poles. Sometimes there would be several of them on the same pole. When the service/repair crew needs to do something they reference the pole number with the office. It's how they keep track of them, kinda like mile markers on the highway.

In picture #5, there is a "U" shaped copper thing with threads on the outside. It's right under, almost touching the green screwdriver handle. This is called a "kernie". Only half of it is there, the other half is missing. These are used for splicing wires together.

The white colored one looks like the piece that attaches to bottom of a childs school room chair or desk. I remember those things, and they did turn too. Just a guess though One thing, if you are finding clad then maybe you will find a ring to go along with it someday.

The numbered nail could also be a railroad tie date nail, I have many of them.
Sparkymaster is probably correct also in their use, but I have no knowledge about old power poles.
Guess you could go with both until you can find out for sure.

Numbered Nail

The numbered brass nail could be a date nail used in a railroad tie? They used to put these on railroad ties so they would know when they were installed and should be replaced.

Nice finds Gypsy! The nail with the date could also be a date nail from the Railroad. They pounded the date nails into the RR ties. I have a hand full of RR date nails I pulled myself from a dead track. The Germans were using iron RR ties even in the early 1900s, I was lucky to find a pile of old rotted wooden RR ties along the track. HH, Mike

Better than digging pull tabs . I bet the girls could figure out how to spend it for you. I do like the Ford made in USA item, do you know what it is? Keep at it before the ground freezes and you bringing home frozen plugs just to see what is in there .

Nice score on the med and ink bottles.
With that many hard earned targets, there should have been something grossely big and gold! Certainly next time....Like the Micky-D ashtray....Joe
