Me and Bigmike were headed to an old homesite and Mike said he wanted to swing by a place in town where he recently saw some road work being done. It was a sidewalk tear out. It was two blocks long and I found three Wheaties in one hole along that stretch and that was it. At the end of the run I noticed a wide strip of grass between the road and sidewalk on a side street. It ran in front of an old rooming house. Glad we hunted it, we got four more Wheaties, a 1965 British/Hong Kong ten cent and a 1917 Mercury dime. There are a bunch of these sidewalk strips in the area we were hunting and we are going back...should keep us busy for awhile. I have been by these spots in the past but assumed they were hunted. Good luck to everyone...does anyone recognize the maker of the lock?

Great Finds!...I love seeing those sidewalk tearouts....Ive only gotten lucky like twice on them...But they are for sure worth hunting

Nice finds, looksl ike you did pretty well. Don't know who made the lock, but it's cool.

Nice finds!:icon_thumleft: I had a field day (month) in the mid 90's when my town redid the streets around the town square: they pulled up all the sidewalks for about 5 blocks. Haven't seen a good sidewalk tear-out for years, but I keep my eyes open.

Sidewalk and street tearouts is all I have been hunting basically for the last 4 or 5 months here in Vegas and have givin me my best finds in over 18 years of detecting. Congratulations on your finds.

Lock appears to be an ILCO - that's Independent Lock Company.

I agree. I've never seen one like that in my area but I find ILCO locks and keys all the time.

It makes things better when you are finding the older wheaties instead of the usual 40's and 50's. Good job noticing that window of opportunity.

Love it when the city tears up old side walks in my town, lots of good stuff to be found...:icon_thumleft:

Congrats on the great digs!!
