These sure are interesting but I can't find anything out about them. Thanks for any help. They look like great places to detect. I wonder if anyone has dug Napoleon's loo?The first one is a commemorative to Francis Scott Key Dedicated to defenders of the flag, the other is Napoleon's exile house. Ernen Ch...is all I can make out. They look like plate etchings. 1481130448632-765795824.jpg 14811306514931748369346.jpg 14811307628822048939810.jpg 1481130850215-503991356.jpg 14811310359831250307910.jpg

If they are etchings there will be a depression where the plate meets the paper. It's part of the process. Otherwise they are lithographs. The copyright is probably the printing company. That's where I'd start.

Thanks I researched the copyright names. I found this on M F Tobin. Maybe he did this in his spare time. He lived on Coney Island.
Meibohm Fine Arts, Inc.
I cant tell is its an etching or a print. The ink on the left side of the house picture makes me think it is an etching.. and the article. They seem smooth, but they are old. The Flag one has Copyright 1895 E C Rost on the upper left side. Ernest Rost was well known, would he and Tobin be the engravers or the signature below? Thanks for the input and any help.

An etching is made on a copper plate where the artist carves and scratches their work into the plate. Acids can also be used. Once inked,an etching press actually presses the plate into the paper with quite a bit of pressure and will leave a definite impression
on the paper that can easily be felt. A lithograph won't leave any impression as the process doesn't depend on causing any relief in the plate or stone.
A print dealer can easily tell the difference. They might also help you find out more concerning value.

Thanks for the info. I think they are not lithos from the ink lines on the edge. Lithos do use less pressure. They have the lines of being from plates. I like your idea of taking them in. Thanks!
