Signs on a tree

[SkyPirate]

I found these signs hanging on a tree out in the woods in the middle of nowhere. There were no visible trails of any kind around. Has anyone seen these before? Can anyone tell me what they mean? They seem to be painted aluminum, kind of look and feel like aircraft aluminum.

Military orienteering?

Logger's signs. Look for logging activity coming to your area soon. P.S. just guessing

I have run across old crosscountry ski trails marked somewhat like this. Don't know what the color coding represents tho'
