I hit an old baseball field today. The backstop was in place, but the infield was completely overgrown. It has been decades since the field was used. Behind the backstop on the first base side, I found the three Liberty Head nickels in an area of about 6 feet. The 1919 Mercury dime was just behind the backstop. I also found the quarter and a penny in the same area. Out past center field was a large tree. In the shade of the tree I found three Indian Head nickels, the other Mercury dime, and the wheat cent. Total finds 12 coins.
1907, 1909, 1911, Liberty Head Nickels
1925,1935, 1935, Indian Head Nickels
1919, 1938 Mercury Head Dimes
1956 Wheat Cent
1980 Penny
1980 Nickel
1972 Quarter
Thanks for looking. H Digs!

I got up at 5:30am and went out to beat the heat! But, I detected until 2:00pm and I'm sure it was close to 100 degrees! I just couldn't help myself!

I use a White's XLT. :) Nickels can be a challenge, but once you get to know the machine, they have a definite, identifiable signature. Thanks, H Digs!
