Went for a 2.5 hour hunt at an old place. It's a Legion building now, but possibly was a church or school at one time.

I first hunted this with a couple of buddies about 12 yrs ago.
We all walked away with silvers, and other finds.
I returned a couple times maybe 10 yrs ago.

First time with the Deus ll
Dug a lot of crap along with a few keepers.

The 1944 quarter just fell out of the big plug.
Easy recovery

This 1837 Half Penny Bank Token was a total surprise. In the iron along the building.
It's in really nice shape actually 👌
The building has a 1897 date, so this Token is 60 yrs older. Sure didn't see circulation for all that time.
Thinking maybe fill was used around the building and it was in it.

Rein guide was on the other side of the building. Lots of iron, crap at this site.
The soil was like soft butter so digging was quick easy, though stuff is deep.
The Minelabs missed alot of targets it seems.
I cherry picked the last 45 minutes.

Congrats on those finds!!! You certainly dug enough targets to get a descent workout in.
Thank you

I was happy the digging was easy.
Starting a hunt at the end a the day is challenging sometimes.

Nice.
Whats the story of the guy on the coin sitting on your jeans? Is he holding a whip of sorts?

Looks like a great permission! Did you hunt it with a small coil this time?
It's just a public place, no permission really needed.
If I recall a person that was the president of the place a dozen years ago said feel free to hunt the place.
The neighbor's property was a blacksmithing shop that put out tokens. At least this what the owner told us back in 2012/3.

Deus ll 9" coil TEKKNA program.

I've ordered the new HF coil, so I am doing a few sites to clean out the obvious high conductors.
This site will then be one of my test sites for the new coil.

The 1837 Half Penny Bank Token, also known as the Habitant token, was a coin issued in Lower Canada in 1837 by leading Montreal banks. These tokens were a successor to the popular "bouquet sous" and featured a Habitant (French-Canadian farmer) on one side and the Montreal city coat of arms on the other. They were produced in one penny/deux sous and half penny/un sou denominations.

Here is a better description of the obverse character.

The obverse of these tokens portrays the standing figure of a habitant in winter dress, with his tuque, frock overcoat of homespun with hood, moccasins, sash and whip. It was thought that the figure resembled Louis-Joseph Papineau, a leader of the Rebellion of 1837, and the tokens became known as 'Papineaus.'

A stellar day out!
Thanks
I was surprised at getting the token actually as the oldest penny was a late Vickie Penny if I recall from the first grinding by 3 of us.

At least you managed a couple of nice finds. I'd call it a successful hunt
Thanks
I totally agree as if I can get a keeper each time I do go out it certainly adds up over the years.
The silver count is pretty good this year so far.
This is one of the best 1837 Tokens I've recovered. Most get pretty burnt from the clay fields and moisture.

A very cool looking old building - congrats on the great finds ! :hello2:
Thanks
We seem to have these Victorian style brick buildings in every small town in Ontario.
They're just part of our landscape it seems.

The building has the look of a church to me. Steeple in front, sanctuary along the length. But the 2 front doors is a bit of a puzzle. I think some schools had those, one for boys and one for girls. Maybe it was converted from church to school at one time.
Beautiful coins! I don't recall seeing a bas Canada h'penny in that good a condition before.

I've dug a lot of them and they don't hold up well.
I thought for a moment it was one of those provincial gas station tokens that Shell used to give out? 😁
Lot older than the building.
