Hello all,
Usually I don't post a horrible day of finds, but there was one interesting item. I got two silver nickels ,dated 1963 and 1962. (strange the only silver coins I have ever gotten have been nickels). But I also found what I believe to be a money clip. It says Nissen and at one time had a gold plating on the surface, as some of the gold is still visible. I have done some research on the nissen and found a couple of different companys that have that name. Anyone ever seen one or have any idea of what company or some history on it? Oh yeah sorry about the date of the pics old digital camera forgot to reset the settings :tard:

The nickels would only contain silver if they were made during the World War II era (Mid 1942 through 1945). Only the U.S. clad coinage that is pre-1964 is silver (Dime, Quarter, Half, Dollar). Not sure about that "Nissen" item, however, it is likely from the Nissen Corporation http://www.nissen-jp.com/Company/company.html a company dating back to 1974 that does work in environmental cleanup. :)

Looks like you had lots of fun with a unique find to cap it off, WTG

Nissin is cup o noodles, not nissen. Sounds Japanese to me. I'll ask my wife who is from Japan. ???

Yeah I did hear about them, but being an enviromental company rather than say a retail company I thought that it would be kind of odd for them to make a money clip to promote their business. Now I am assuming it is a money clip. Here is a pic of the back. And I was not aware of the nickels being only from 1942-1945 I had read a long time ago that all pre 64 coins except pennies were silver. Ughh and I thought I had a lot of nickels that were silver :-[

Yeah if it was Nissan that would have been easy and cool, but it seems that a lot of my finds recently have not been that easy, but I guess that it what keeps it interesting huh?

AND rewarding. The quest for the ID is so important. Glad you posted this--it's a tough one.

Thanks I like to try and ID as many of my finds as I can. Google did not really help on this one though.

I still think it a sash buckle for a car.

Do you have any pics of similar ones? It very well could be...I have no idea on this one though!

Very good job! BTW nickels were silver only during WWII. After WWII was over they turned back to copper. So the 1964 rule does not apply to nickels. Only to Dimes, Quarters, and Half Dollars. But a lot of the time, I do too wish that silver on nickels was continued after 1945. But that is not the way that the government had wanted it. I guess it just cost way to much money. Anyway awesome finds! Keep on hunting!

Keep following those old nickels! You a got a good ratio going there 8 Q's/6 nickels...

Means you doing purdy good on the low end IDs...you know, where GOLD comes from!

I like to see old nickels in my plugs cause most of the parks around here pretty worked out...for silver...but if previous hunters skipping those 5 centers, they probably skipped yellow stuff too!

We got one park here I know has given up 6 or 7 gold rings and NO silver ones. (We dug tons o nickels there too BTW) Previous hunters cleaned out the silver BUT good...only they left thousands of dollars in gold laying in the ground!
