Another quick lunch hunt nets me some really fun finds. Headed back to my honey hole park. Thing just keeps on giving. Headed to the back area and got the junk, interconnected rings and the bullet. I would be very interested on the age of the bullet. I found it about 8-10 inch range. I am also interested to see if the big old lead piece is another bullet. Very oversized top (almost mushroom like) makes me think it isn't, but I have no idea. I can post better pics of each if it helps, just let me know. Got a nice deep penny signal which I knew was a wheat. I think it's a 1928. I was happy with that, but would be happier with a 1922!

Moved back to the front and got a nice, higher tone. Out pops this lovely 1954 Washington. About 5 feet over, I get a nice 91/92 vdi signal. Thinking, "man, another silver." Nope, out pops a clad nickel. So, I swing again, yep, now a clad quarter. That was a bummer, but the hunt was great overall...not complaining!

Isn't it crazy that we all out here in the Mid West to the East Coast are still able to hunt in the beginning of January????? I'm in Missouri.... and it was 63 DEGREES today! Gotta Love It. Great to see someone hitting the big Silver too! Nice Find! :headbang: :headbang:

im guessing turn of the century. lead piece is a bullet too, just deformed from being fired.
nice quarter. that would make my day.

Without measurements the cartridge looks to me like a .22 long rifle, and the lead looks to be a .38 wad cutter that's been fired, which caused the one end to mushroom out a bit. Wad cutter bullets are used when shooting paper targets, because they cut a cleaner hole in paper, which are easier to score, and don't cost as much to reload.

Very nice finds ! :icon_thumright:

I always hate finding live rim fire rounds. I wonder if a guy hit the rim hard enough with his digging tool if it would go off.

nice finds! Are the rings gold?

No, they are junk. I knew before I dug them b/se of the Vdi. Still fun.

Thanks for the info on the bullets BosnMate. Never heard of a wad cutter before.
