Still making it out before the snow and had a game plan, was hard but we stuck to it. We decided to try a an old beat french site for an hour to try our luck...Not much other than 3 musket balls and a pile of pipe stems and pieces of the bowl. After this we decided a different approach and follow inland further following some old brooks and possible portages... Lesson learned, found a 1820's site where we wouldn't have expected it and also found a half a dozen or more Victorian foundation in which we hunted quickly. Here is my take for the day. An 1820 Trade and Navigation token, seems to be in better shape than most of my other ones, 1895 Canadian LC, 1841 Half Penny Token, crusty thistle token and this strange silver button marked 2 1/2 with a broken shank. Has anyone ever seen one like it before or to it's purpose? Also managed to small brooches...Seems like a brooch year for me...The wave must be coming back down now...Thanks for looking.

Great finds Patriot,
That button is something else.
Does it have a shank on the back? Could be a love token?
Very different find there.

Always nice to have a new site to call home for the day

That button is a real head scratcher, pretty cool though!

Very unusual find.........Can we see the back?

Just posted the back side of the button...Funny when I first popped it out of the ground, I thought it was an old silver coin then thought off a pair of jeans or something..But it is silver 100% for sure with a broken shank.

We sure gave it a good try, and have a lot more land/sites to cover. There's a lot more to find in those spots I'm sure.

Patriot, that button is really awesome. Along the lines of what Vino said, perhaps a love token sort of button... maybe a dime or reale that was etched much like a love token to create a button.

Is there any evidence that it has\had a reeded edge on it? Does its diameter match any coin size in mm?

Great hunt!

Great looking silver button, the broken shank side is ok, but seriously I'd be displaying the beauty the other way up in the holder. :)

That is seriously cool button, I like it better than even your recent banner.
Possibly one of a kind, home made, but looks too good to be ?
If there is another out there hope you find out, and ID it.

My first thought was love token. It looks hand made, and whatever it is, it is really sweet. Congrats on the other stuff too, however, that button is the treasure, IMO. Best of luck to you!

That button is a real head scratcher. I know you stated it's silver; is that from testing? It's not tombac? (although it looks too shiny to be tombac). Weird.

Love the button. My guess is that it was a silver dime from the period and made smooth on both sides then hand carved like a love token. I have no idea what the 2 1/2 stands for. Hopefully someone can solve the mystery.

You guys are so silly, this is no mystery at all. This is Charlie Sheen's pants button from when he was on "Two and a half men" ... as for broken shank ... we all know why that happened.

Now that silver button is just odd & cool at the same time. Victorian, but why?

Gotta give you credit, that was pretty damn funny.

Odd enough I think there may have been something on the back other than a button loop.
