I have made several of these rings, never used a spoon it takes too long. Just a hammer will do as long as your careful. Trick is to keep it even, if it starts getting crooked your in trouble. I make them so the writing and the date on the edge of the coin is still readable on the inside of the ring. Quarters make good ladies rings and half dollars for men. I have yet to dig one though.
Beware once they start showing them around you will be making more...

Great find! I love the way one of our TNet members makes them. Check out his website:

they are not made the same way as a hand made coin ring is.... they still are very cool looking rings

They are handmade, just in a different way. I like seeing the date and the writing on the outside. Both are cool.

i made one and gave it to my mom for mothers day and she wears it every day.

very nice... did you use a spoon?
no i did not use a spoon i used an average sized hammer on the one in my photo, but this past weekend i made one with a 4 ounce hammer i gave it to my grandpa because he lost his wedding ring, the lighter hammer made a much more almost perfect ring but it took allot longer to make, the larger hammers make them warped and uneven but takes less time, i would use a small hammer and let the weight of the hammer fall on the coin to give an even weight distribution and to avoid warping it, i can send you a photo of the one i just made if you like just reply back.

I wouldn't have the patients... how your family likes your rings... I bet they are cool looking too!
