Left the house early to head back to Baltimore County site for another troll through the fields.

Hands eventually warmed up. Everything was coated in ice, but there was sunshine.

First good find was a flat button; it was green in the hole so there's a chance it's old.
Here's the dig.

A deeper target, at about 7 to 8 inches was the shotgun headstamp, UMC CO NEW CLUB, probably from around 1900.

Nearby came the piece from a pocket knife.

Was looking for any signs of broken pottery as I moved along but nothing obvious.

Got out of the fields and back on the grassy area between fields and dig a 70s signal that at first glance looked like a bird band, but then I noticed the writing said "STERLING". A nearby signal produced the end-cap that was once attached. Not certain what this was part of. Ideas?
Here's how it looked to me.

At the end of that same grassy path I got a solid 82 signal, so you know I was thinking "largie" but that was not to be; it turned out to be a modern quarter.

Thanks for checking out the pics, vids and liking. Happy hunting!

Thanks Professor. I've been meaning to hunt this site for awhile now. It's been farmed since 1825.

Shiny in a farm field! Last thing I expected to find there. Not sure if this speaks to proximity to a house site.

Thanks for your post, Seek Ye First! Diameter of end-cap is 5/8 inch, so I was thinking maybe the end to a letter opener or utensil with a round handle.

Thanks JackalopeZL1! We had some freezing rain overnight and I left my shovel in the truck bed. So I had to knock off as much ice as I could before digging. Had a good couple hours out there in the crisp January air.

Nice finds, The silver lid was probably the top of a perfume bottle, many crystal purse perfumes had sterling lids.

Thx dr-quest! Did look up perfume bottles and saw that they used to come as a cylinder on a chain. My piece has an evident taper, so stopper may make sense.

Thx deershed! Be cool to find some silver in the form of a half-dime, but silver in any form on a farm field is a surprise.
