Hey you did great for the short time you hunted. I'm pretty sure the stone is Lapis lazuli. I love it!! Sometimes it has pieces of gold pyrite in it, can you see any? :cat:

Yes! there are bits of gold colored mineral. The stone is very blue in sunlight. It is more gray-like under incandecent light. Also has a moltted, opaque hue. TimC's first thought was it is lapus lazuli. Thanks, Peachy. TTC

Two more pics.....

The very earliest cultures valued lapis lazuli more highly than gold. It is also one of the stones in the 'Breastplate of Judgement' of Aaron, described in the Bible.

COOL.... NEAT..... TimC told me lapus lazuli has been mined since 6000 b.c.e. I wonder.... thinking I could reset the stone in a ring, is silver the traditional setting or is gold ok. It is a VERY pretty stone.

"They say" everything goes with blue. I have seen it set in both silver and gold. It's just a personal decision. You know what you could do? If you really want to get fancy you could have your lapis set in gold with dark rubies and and it would match the Marine Corps Dress Blues A and B uniform perfectly.

Good thing this didn't say "No Devil Dogs allowed" LOL

I told my brother the sign says "my ex-wife is not allowed".

Cool finds and silver too.

That looks like dark blue turquoise, look it up. Or an imitation made with copper.

You know what’s cool? What’s cool is when someone post the hunt location by naming the cross streets like you did, or an address when the city has a street view on Google maps, then we can take a look, like I did.

The homes up street from the park on 64th St. look very old. Is there still construction going on across the street from the park? Old homes might have been there at one time. I sure would like to hit some of those old Victorians near there.

There might be an old map of the area to view on San Born Maps.

Good luck HH

HA HA HA!!! Peachy,
Do I detect a BAM backround? Or are you a military brat? Only a "chosen few" would know about the dress blues color scheme!

My brother, TimC, has been making jewelry for many years now. He knows jem stones. That, coupled with Peachy's posts, leaves no doubt that the stone is lapus lazuli. I have been thrilled by this find more than most of my gold finds. Really cool! Thanks. TTC

Hehehe, Anyone that knows me knows that "brat" is an understatement. This is my dad who collapsed right after this photo was taken. You can see the "I don't feel so well" look on his face. He was diagnosed with hepatitis. LOL
He made the Inchon Landing and was shot just outside the Kimpo Airfield. He's still kickin'. :tongue3:

Uhhhh, you don't think that's me playing do you? The video's are Tommy Emmanuel. THE GREATEST. I do play guitar just nowhere near that well. Hardly anyone can play like that. :cat:

Ant,
I like the idea of posting the location. I mean, it's only a local park. All are welcome, as far as I'm concerned. If you've been following any of the other posts I've done, you'll see I'm not shy about posting the exact spots. Recently, I've figured out how to actually use the Google Maps aerial views right in the post. Now, if I found a "real" or cob or escudo, I would probably be a little more discreet! TTC
