Silver on your own lawn?! Yep!

Was happy to find this nice silver ca. quarter on my lawn! Also found this wheat pennie. Why do people like to collect wheaties? Do they have much value or do people like them just because they are older coins? Would this wheat sell? How about the silver?

Nice and that's the last year the Canadian quarters contained silver! Congrats!

I don't know if it is true but I have read that some 1968 Canadian Quarters are nickel and some are about 50% silver. Others here know much more than I about coins, maybe someone can help educate me.

Thats true. If it sticks to a magnet then it's not silver, if it doesn't then it's silver.

Nice, I got two mercs out of my yard when i first started detecting. I still do the yard every once an a while and have managed to pull a few wheats this year. A far as wheats go some can be quite valuable, i dont really "collect" them but I do keep them, I just throw them in their own jar after I have checked for key dates.

Nice silver, I too keep my wheaties separately from my other jug of pennies, I have no clue what I will do with the. My clad I am saving for my new detector stuff fund, actually not even sure how or when I will spend it. I guess one day you will read about the metal detecting hoarder!!

Pick up a copy of "Yoeman's Red Book of United States Coins. It will give you all the key dates of each coin type. An excellent quick reference book to have in your treasure hunting library.

Your wheat is not a rare date and in dug condition, is worth only about $.02 U.S.

Some Wheaties can be worth quite a bit. Like against the wind said get the red book. It's a great reference book for coins.
