I've tried to get out as much as possible in the last few weeks but have had to content myself with the one or two hours before work each morning. Averaging one ring found each week and at least one silver item. Wheats are popping up too. Haven't run across any gold yet but I hope it will find it's way to my pouch sometime this season. A few older relics - fishing reel, brass bell, pencil sharpener and some odd clip looking thing that has the name "Gunther" on each side. (Possible book clasp or similar?)

Anyway - best of luck to my fellow hunters and thanks for reading!

Nice Finds. Looks like you have some good search areas.

The Gunther item looks like sugar cube or ice tongs. I googled it, but am distracted by a 2 yr old. There was a Gunther family that made beef cubes, see below.
Awfully nice mixture of items!!
Tigger

"Mr Gunther was a distinguished business man. Amongst many business interests he was chairman of Liebig's Extract of Meat Company founded by his father, he was also director of OXO which celebrated 100 years of the OXO cube in 2010."

As usual, nice haul Black :icon_thumright:

Great assortment of goodies!
Love ring #1, check the spindle ends of that reel, some have inset cabachon stones.
Nice IH and 5 Yen, You got a heelplate too!
The bell is a duplicate of the first one I found.. Nice piece.
the Gunther piece reminded me of sugar tongs, you guys nailed that one fast!
Cool promo item.
Thanks for showing some great digs

Nice finds Black, have you ever tried hunting between Fort Snelling and Watergate Marina? And stay cool up there! Cant believe how hot it is up there already. :icon_thumright:

Thanks for all the comments!

Tigger: I have been searching in the tongs direction but haven't made that connection yet - thanks for the clues! I ran across some information on a Charles Gunther as well who was big into promotional advertisements for his candy company - might be another avenue of research.

steelheadwill: You found this same bell too? Cool! Ever find out for what it was used? Carriage bell? Doorbell? I haven't been able to nail down the date for the Yen coin yet but I think it might be from the 1950's. It's pretty beat up and had to see the date symbols on the other side. (Sadly, no stones on the spindle. The reel is not in the best of shape but it was fun to dig up!)

RPSwede: I haven't gotten to that area as yet - due to the fact that I bike for my transportation my area is limited to what I can get to by human power - lol! I'll look into it though - thanks!

I have to go into work for an early meeting today but am going to try and sneak in at least an hour hunt before doing so. Looking forward to seeing all of the finds on this site!! (Man. I need to find some gold pretty soon! Seems like forever since I dug the last one, even though it was in March!)

HH all! :icon_thumright:

great finds-hope you can soon get a mo pad bike or car! good luck on future hunts! :icon_thumright:
