I dug this scabbard tip on July 4th in a wooded area near New Haven, Ct. It was down about 5 inches and appears to be made of silver (the stain-looking areas in the photo are remaining dirt residue). The piece is small (2+1/4 in. long and just under 1/2 in at the wide end). Seems it would be for a small, possibly triangular blade.
Looking at the craftsmanship and detail in the designs I would think it might be 18tn century. There is still remnants of leather inside the throat.
I would appreciate feedback from the experts.

It is kind of small..I would guess it was part of a Chatelaine..or maybe not[h=1][/h]

Don't know anything about it but I like it. Nice and unusual find. Tennessee digger

All I know for sure is that ya got ya a cool find.Good hunting............................

Bayonette scabbard tip

Very ornate bayonet scabberd ool find for sure.....HH

Thanks for the replies.
I was lthinking a daggar scabbard. The fact that it's so small and made of silver - I think wouldn't be for a bayonet.
Any ideas on origin and possible dating? (as I said, I'm thinking 18th c but maybe someone could narrow it down regarding the construction or designs on it)
Thanks, Bruce

I have something similar on a cowboy necktie. they are silver too.
