Dug up this nice silver spoon today. Also dug up 2 buckles (1 silver) along with a horseshoe.

Here are the 2 buckles. The one on the right I found with a bell . Maybe another bell around?

Neat harness buckles, often several bells were attached to leather strap (crotals) or metal frame (conestogas)
I pulled a dozen #1 & 2 Crotals, buckle, nose ring and remains of leather from one hole during a winter hunt.
Sometimes a single goat or sheep or cow would be trained to lead the flock home, this 'Judas goat' would be the one to wear such a collar. Was your bell a crotal or conestoga?

Very Nice. I have many, but none with that type of attachment.

After showing it to my uncle( who's in his 70s) there are 2 possibilities. This could be for the head goat or a bell that hung outside that they would pull for dinner or whatever. If this was a goat bell,it would have been handed down thru the family since they were expensive. He thinks it might be a house bell that was lost when the structure possibly burned down ,which wasn't unusual back in the 1800's

Good stuff, history passed on through another generation
