Silver spoons.

This is my collection of silver spoons and one fork. Found many in farm fields. And a couple in parks,and home sites.

Even a couple of baby spoons.
I think getting a silver spoon at a homestead tells a lot about the wealth of the family.

One farm I found two of the baby spoons. And around 30+ spoons at same farm. I believe the area where all the spoons were found Was a pig pen.

Probably throwing out the slop buckets. I've found utensils in our compost pile over the years.
That's a lot if spoons for one place. I usually might find one every few years.

The farm is from 1785. It was amazing how many spoons were found there.

Love all the spoons. Especially that fiddle thread pattern one on the top left. Looks early 19th century.

Im thinking they didn't use plastic utensils for picnics back then.

They may have used bone utensils, or spoons made from cow horns. I read somewhere that around the time plastic was invented the same industries that made bone and cow horn utensils began using plastic. This means the very earliest plastic objects may well have been made by artisans originally skilled in bone and horn carving.
