I went out to a new site today. We had researched it and hit it hard today.

This is the result.

A 17th-18th century silver trade brooch. I am still speechless

I agree,, What would really be cool is if some one came up with a pic of a painting or better yet a photo of a Native American with these on there clothing!
Absolutely stunning find DH! A find of a lifetime for me anyway! Given the history of the piece, it's significance to the history of the area, and it's rarity, I vote BANNER all day long.

Very cool find....you don't see these posted everyday!

Very cool find there! Never seen one posted here.... You must know your stuff well! I'll take that over a coin any day.

Trade brooch? - please expound.

A trade brooch was a silver item - there are so many different versions - this one is 1700-1830s style - that was traded to the Natives in the eastern Woodlands for pelts etc. They are exceedingly rare to find metal detecting. They were worn as adornments, sometime 10 or more on dresses and covers by the native people in the eastern woodlands of North America.

Nice Find! Where was this at? Don't see this kind of stuff around my place. No Native American sites nearby. I'd love to hunt with you guys!:hello2:

Nice piece of Native American trade silver!

Thanks. We are looking at some other areas that might have similar finds. Very excited for a thaw lol

amazing that the last person to have likely touched this was a native north american. We found piles of small musket ball or pistol shot balls in the area. It makes me wonder what happened there.

I am honored to have saved it. My best find. No Doubt
