Silver uMax enroute!

I would say I stead of the same to get a compadre. Cheaper even than yours but has special abilities.
Also only one knob to mess with.
I can say with all I own I will never sell mine. Also I loved the one so much I got the other model. Now I own both.
5.75 for more trashy areas and playgrounds and the 8" which works there as well but also gives good coverage for more open areas.
I got the 8" first then had to try the 5.75. coils aren't interchangeable.
Great beginner detector but also so great I'll never let mine go.

I tell you what I would be doing if I was sick, I would be loozing up potential spots where people gathered way back in the day (drive in movies, swimming holes, etc...). Then again, you cannot go detecting if you don't get better!

In for a penny, in for a pound!

My new Outlaw just arrived...along with my girlfriends Valentine's gifts...a pinpointer, headphones, knee pads, diggers for her to go along with the Silver uMax.
Sure hope she wasn't expecting a ring...guess she'll have to dig her own!

an Outlaw too..?

Congratulations! You two are going to have a great time!

Read up on that Outlaw and how the red button works. I use the button mostly in parks to detune/pinpoint in disc. mode. Remember to retune after using it though... Do that by holding your coil up off the ground a couple feet, then either hold the red button in again OR flip your toggle switch over to "auto" and back to disc. Either of those will retune (reset) your threshold sound and sensitivity.
You can pinpoint fine just by "X-ing" the target, but also using the detune function will get you right on center.

BTW - I like to set threshold so I can barely hear it. Doing that gives me the best info on depth; small, deep targets give softer signals and shallow targets are louder.

Run sensitivity as high as you can, and ground balance slightly negative. If sensitivity is too high though, and ground balance also set too positive, larger coins like quarters will sound weak. You need to find that just right balance for best depth and relatively quiet operation in disc. mode.

Thanks for the tips Pinenut...going to head out tomorrow...see what we can dig up!
