I was invited to search a property today that once had a Baptist church on it, and I had high hopes. Several things worked against me, however; the owner wasn't exactly sure where it sat, and he's tried to find pictures without success. Lacking better details, I began at one corner of the property and started searching. I turned up lots of modern coins, but nothing to indicate that a church stood here a hundred years ago. My oldest was a 42S wheat, which doesn't appear to fit the church's timeframe. What I did find of interest was this silver Catholic medallion, not likely dropped by any long ago parishoners and only an inch deep. Also not owned by the property owner, who is Lutheran. I also found a soccer referee's coin, used for a pre-game coin toss. I'm welcome back to the site whenever I like, and I'll probably go; it just won't be with as much anticipation.
