STAGE GULCH ... was located between PENDLETON and STANFIELD. In the early 1900s the stage was robbed halfway and $1200 was taken. The robbers were arrested the next day in Stanfield. They said that the money was hidden in STAGE GULCH and then they were hung. source PAGE 61,

NIGHTHAWK ... HIRAM "OKANOGAN" SMITH served a term in the legislature in 1860 then went back to his home ranch near CHESAW. He tended his orchard for 40 years and died intestate with a considerable estate that included three mines. Attorney JAMES M. HAGGERTY of PORTLAND took these mines as partial payment for settling the esate. The mines were called RUBY, KAABA and SIX EAGLE. source PAGE 829, GHOST TOWNS OF THE WEST BY LAMNERT FLORIN (1970)
