This forum isn't too active, so I figured I'd post about my experience so far and not bother anyone. I have the 9" coil, remote, and WSA XL ST headphones.
Initial impressions coming from a Whites V3i, the weight reduction is the biggest. I can swing this thing for hours! I thought I might miss all of the visual information of the V3i, but I don't think I really have. I'm learning the VDI numbers and, more importantly, the sounds, and though I'm digging a lot of trash, I'm digging less every trip. One gripe: the headphones need a lot more insulation to block outside noise. For the price they charge, a little more foam to block out noise would have been nice.
I felt confident enough on my last outing to skip digging pennies and start cherry-picking nickels, dimes, and quarters. I had surgery back in December, so I've been sitting on the couch for months, and I am more out of shape than usual. After 3-4 hours of swinging and digging, I was pretty sore and decided the pennies weren't worth the effort. The park I've hunted in is old, but well hunted. Plus, most of it was buried when the interstate was put in back in the 1950's, so most of it is newer, thus just clad and no silver. It's a great place to find a few dollars in change and learn the sounds of pull tabs, beaver tails, and can slaw compared to good finds. I did find an Empire State Building pendant that is pretty neat, but not that old. I'm getting confident enough that I'm going to start looking for a park with silver potential. I have one in mind, and it too is well hunted, so it'll be a challenge. I've been using a US coin program I found on YouTube that uses 5-tone audio with dimes and quarters having their own tone, so cherry picking is easy. I haven't messed with multiproc too much yet, but soon.
A couple of quick questions. I've noticed that at the ends of my sweep, I sometimes get a beep, but there isn't a target there. It seems to happen more at the end of the left sweep than the right? Do I have the sensitivity or another setting too high? I don't believe I'm bumping the coil, though it's possible. Naming saved programs, are there only 6-8 characters allowed for a name, or am I doing something wrong?
All in all, I'm very happy with the new detector.
