Howdy All, I went detecting today for the first time at a friends 114 year old house. I got a good signal in the front yard and pulled 6 wheat pennies out of one hole. In the backyard I found this cool buckle. It looks like it is brass and is broke. Can anyone tell me what kind of buckle it is and about how old. Thanks Steve

Howdy All, I had this buckle posted on the "what is it" forum and The Cannon Ball Guy identified it as a S.S. Hartshorn Buckle patented in 1855 as clothing vest & pantwaist adjuster strap buckle. Patent was renewed in 1874 and this is the later version. Big thanks to TCBG.
