Sluice Boxs

Well that's going to pretty much be a toss the coin decision. The plastic will be lighter but will require a frame to support it. The metal box will be a tad heavier but will be much stronger. Your choice should be dictated by the amount of water flow you will have to work with. Wider boxes will require more water to work right so keep that in mind.

You can get a better sluice box from a lot of companies other than Keen. Shop around before ya buy. Nothing against Keen as they make good stuff but they are pricey and kind of limited in their selection. Check out South Yuba Mining or Heckler Fabrications boxes. Many more sizes and very good prices.

As mentioned the choice of sluice is driven by how much material and water will be produced by the trommel. One of the Angus Mackirk drop riffles gives the advantages of plastic (drop riffles) with the strength of a metal sluice..without the weight but might not handle higher water flows. Another savvy option might be a fluid bed if you don't mind the piping for the fluidization.
