Well this dig site is working out. Dug a 1885 V nickle and and a shield nickel that I cannot quite make the date out. Found this on the last dig of the day but it's blank on both sides and it would be nice to have identified. Just under 2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. thanks

Welp... My guess is a "Monogram plate"... or "manufacturing I.D. plate"...

My first thought was Cavalry saddle shield, but when I checked they all seem to have a slot in them for a strap to pass through, so I don't think that's it.

It looks to have been pounded flat so I think it curved at one time, so possibly a badge on a bicycle, the nameplate.
