Today I hit the same site that produced the 1865 2-cent piece a few months ago. I'm not convinced there was a home on this site as the iron is pretty sparse, but it's clearly been an area that people have passed through for a long time. Besides $1 in clad and one lonely 1951D wheatie, this little civilian flat button with a deformed but intact shank was the only find of note. Rang up as a stable 15-16 on the Equinox. Since I just don't tend to dig many buttons -- and the amount of button ID information out there is downright overwhelming -- I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on the backmark. The front is plain and the only markings on the reverse appear to be a word ending in "CED" just below the shank. The CED is actually pretty clear in real life, even though I couldn't get it to show up well in the photos. While I was cleaning it, I thought at points I could see an A, R, I, N or M in the letters before the CED, but that may have just been my brain trying to make sense out of nothing. Just wondering if this mark rings a bell for any of the experienced button guys. Thanks for looking!
