how much did the ring weigh and button, after he was done......any loss?

I assume the button was extra gold right Casting sprue

Thanks for all the kind words everyone.

Hi jorge del norte.
I started out with 17.1 grams. I got back a 10 gram ring and a 5 gram button.

The casting tree that I gave him weighted in at 1 gram, he seemed confused that he was missing so much. So to tell you the truth, I really don't know, or to my calculations he lost 1.1 grams. Please see my illustration.

[Ant]

Oh yeah. I named it the, "Take Me To Your Leader Ring".

Awesome finds and hunting Ant, congrats! Button looks to be mid 1800s or so, maybe a 49er lost it. HH, Mike

"he lost 1.1 grams"

most jewelers gain some gold.....when making a ring.......but at least you got the button!
I think you lost around 20.00 bucks worth.....still not bad....nice ring!!!!!!
