All I can tell you is what I found on the net. I have found them over the years. They are off the overall of the train crew. They can go back to before the civilwar. Not far before the war as most of the railroad expansion took place around the late 1850s. Being an iron back I would think yours may have some age on it. About all I know.

I have seen these designs (antique looking locomotive) on blue jean and overall buttons. I would say that this button is 20th c.

I don't think they are the same. The dug one has a much wider rim around the perimeter. Same style, yes, but not the same button. The one in question seems to be made of iron while the one similar is made of pot metal or some other metal? "I'm just saying.....!" (I was told that if you say that no one can argue with you). M :wink: nty
