I found this metal detecting. Its made of brass or copper and the writing on the is unreadable. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

Looks like an early navy cuff button.

Also looks like it has some gilt on it. Maybe a candidate for aluminum jelly. You'll be amazed whats under all the crud. :thumbsup:

Old Navy button and when you clean it up it will be easier to identify about what year if came from. Nice find!!!

It's an early navy. Very late 1700's to early 1800's. Probably British made. Like has already been said luminum jelly might clean it to where you can read the backmark and that should help with a better ID

Agreed, circa 1800 British Navy.
