Smoking Pipe (West Africa)

Again I hope it is okay to share in this forum, this clay pipe wraped with leather. The pot is clay and the handle is wood and is also wraped with leather. It also was collected by my father over 60 years ago. You can still smell the tobacco that was used.

Another neat gift handed down to you by your father. How did your father come to obtain these?

Not absolutly sure, either they were given to him or he bought or traded for them. My parents were over there in africa for 30 years.

Very nice items not like the tourist things now. My brother was there in the Marines. He traded all his skivvies for some items and sent them to me. Nothing of that quality though. It looks as if he interacted with the true cultures.

I was going to say here he is..... with a picture of an old african man smoking a pipe but when i googled seems the women smoked pipes as much as did the men...

Your are right about the women, smoking also. I distinctly remember the women also chewing on the kola nut. It was very similar to tobacco chew.
